French rarely gets you admitted. It decides whether the plan works afterwards.
This page is for three different readers: students heading to Canada, students heading to France, and anyone in India building a career around French. Their reasons for learning it are genuinely different. We teach A1 and B1, the foundation each of them needs before French becomes useful.
Why people learn French through us
Bound for Canada
French does not affect admission to English-taught Canadian programmes. It affects what happens after: Francophone immigration streams, provincial nomination advantages, and daily life and work in Quebec, Ottawa and parts of New Brunswick. TK: which streams weight French, and by how much.
Bound for France
English-taught programmes in France usually do not require French for admission. French-taught programmes are different and carry their own minimum level requirements. TK: typical minimum level required by French-taught programmes. Even on an English-taught programme, French often matters for internships, the Campus France interview, and the job search afterwards. Building a career in India
Some readers have no plan to move abroad and want French as a career skill. It opens sectors that deal with French-speaking clients and markets. The level recruiters generally look for sits above A1 and B1, see the career section below.
What French actually changes, and what it does not
French is rarely what gets you admitted. It is what determines whether the plan works afterwards, or a career skill in its own right if you are not moving at all.
It changes
- Eligibility for Francophone immigration streams after graduating in Canada. TK: which streams, and how French is weighted.
- Provincial nomination advantages in Canada. TK: which provinces, current weighting.
- Internships, the Campus France interview and the post-study job search in France, even on English-taught programmes.
- Employability in India for roles serving French-speaking clients or markets.
- Daily life and integration in Quebec, Ottawa, parts of New Brunswick, or in France generally.
It does not change
- Admission to English-taught programmes, in Canada or in France.
- Your student visa or study permit outcome, anywhere.
- English-language test requirements, such as IELTS, PTE or TOEFL, for the programme itself.
- Any guaranteed job or salary outcome, at any stage.
One exception: French-taught programmes in France set their own minimum French level for admission, independent of this course. If you are applying to one, follow that programme’s stated requirement, not this page.
French as a career skill
French-speaking roles in India cluster in a few sectors and cities. Employers typically check for certification, and roles realistically start at B2, a level above what this course teaches.
Global capability centres serving European and Canadian clients are a growing employer of French speakers in these cities.
Nobody reaches B2 without completing A1 and B1 first. This course is the necessary foundation, not a shortcut to a French-language job on its own.
Four names, two purposes
Students confuse these constantly, and sometimes pay for the wrong one. TEF and TCF exist for immigration and official purposes. DELF and DALF are academic and general proficiency diplomas.
TEF & TCF
The Test d’évaluation de français and the Test de connaissance du français are used to demonstrate French proficiency for immigration applications and some official or administrative purposes.
TK: current accepted test versions, score-to-level conversion tables, validity period, sitting fee, and how scores translate into any immigration points system. Bluehawks does not administer these exams.
DELF & DALF
The Diplôme d’études en langue française covers levels A1 to B2. The Diplôme approfondi de langue française covers C1 and C2. Both are general-purpose diplomas, not immigration instruments.

A1 and B1, and nothing beyond that yet
A1 · Beginner
Realistically, this lets you introduce yourself, handle simple transactions such as shopping and ordering, ask for and follow basic directions, and understand very slow, clearly articulated speech. It will not make you conversational, and on its own it will not satisfy the French thresholds most immigration streams or employers require.
B1 · Independent user
Realistically, this lets you hold everyday conversations, manage unplanned situations while travelling, describe experiences and opinions in simple terms, and follow the gist of straightforward workplace or study material. It is not fluency, and it sits below B2, where most French-language roles and higher immigration weightings begin.
Is French prep right for you
A fit
- You are considering study, work or settlement in Quebec, Ottawa or Francophone New Brunswick after graduation.
- You are heading to France and want French for internships, the Campus France interview or the job search afterwards.
- You want French as a career skill in India and are willing to continue past B1 towards B2.
- You are willing to treat this as a multi-year path if your goal needs levels beyond A1 and B1.
Not a fit
- You are applying to an English-taught programme and do not intend to stay.
- You want a French-language job but are not willing to reach B2.
- You need French test scores for an application deadline in the next few weeks. TK: confirm realistic minimum runway.
- You already hold a level above B1 and need B2 or C1 preparation, which we do not currently offer.

The DELF exam fee is paid separately to Alliance Française and is not included in the course fee.

Do I need French to get admitted to my programme?+
No, for English-taught programmes in Canada or France. French-taught programmes in France are the exception and set their own minimum level. Otherwise, French matters after admission, not for it.
What is the difference between TEF, TCF, DELF and DALF?+
TEF and TCF are used for immigration and official purposes. DELF and DALF are academic and general proficiency diplomas, unrelated to immigration. See the tests section above.
Will A1 or B1 be enough for a French-language job in India?+
Not on their own. Roles realistically start at B2. A1 and B1 are the foundation you need before B2 becomes possible, not a substitute for it.
Do you teach B2 or DALF C1?+
Not currently. We teach A1 and B1 only. You will need to continue elsewhere for B2 or DALF C1.
Is this course only for students headed to Canada or France?+
No. It is also open to anyone in India who wants A1 or B1 French as a career skill, with no plan to move abroad.

Do you administer the TEF, TCF, DELF or DALF exams?+
No. DELF and DALF are administered by Alliance Française, and the exam fee is paid to them separately from our course fee. TK: confirm whether our syllabus maps to a specific exam.
What is included in the course fee?+
Both levels include a free demo class, mock tests, live class recordings and certified faculty. Any exam fee, such as the DELF fee paid to Alliance Française, is separate.
Can I start French prep after I have already been admitted?+
Yes. Since French does not affect admission to English-taught programmes, there is no deadline tied to your offer.
How is this different from a general French class?+
TK: describe what, if anything, is specific to students planning to study or work with French, such as vocabulary or context choices, versus a generic beginner French class.
